German Pellets started production in Texas 21. June 2013

In June, German Pellets has officially begun production at its new location in Woodville, Texas, with commissioning. The pellet plant has an annual capacity of 578,000 tons. This increases the total capacity of the group to 2.2 million tons . In the harbor of Port Arthur, Texas, a pellet storage and a loading facility for transporting the pellets to Europe are almost completed.

The construction of a second plant in the state of Louisiana will begin shortly. Advance long-term supply contracts have been signed with major energy suppliers for both plants.

German Pellets GmbH was founded in 2005 in Wismar (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) and has developed into the largest producer of wood pellets worldwide. At 15 sites in Germany, Austria and the USA, German Pellets is producing wood pellets and also animal-hygiene products. Wood pellets are small sticks of wood produced from wood chips. This renewable energy source offers a variety of opportunities for use – in private households, industry and commerce, and also in power plants producing electricity and heating.
Based on provisional figures, Group turnover in 2012 grew from 286 m. Euro to 519 m. Euro. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) grew to a level of 39.6 m. Euro (2011: 29.6 m. Euro); earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) increased by 8 m. Euro to reach 23.4 m. Euro.
