Mild winter leads to sinking pellet prices and significantly lower pellet production in Germany
Berlin, 19 May 2014.
In May is has the price of wood pellets on average decreased by approx. 7 EUR / t , this reports the German Energy Wood and Pellet Association ( DEPV ). The price per tonne ( t) is at average 250.48 EUR per kilogram or 25.05 cents per kWh. This is 2.6 percent less than the previous month and 5.1 percent less than last year .
In addition to the pellet prices, the pellet production fell in the first quarter of 2014 , as compared to the previous year by 17 percent, or almost 92,000 t to 447,000 t .
“This development , in view of the mild winter does not surprice ” says DEPV Managing Director Martin Bentele .
” Since pellets in Germany are exclusively used for heat recovery , a decrease in production is the natural consequence of a non exisiting winter. ”
