No other option, Södra closes the mill in Tofte in August
Despite efforts, it has not been possible to achieve a commercial acceptable sales solution for in Tofte and now Södra decided to close the mill. The decision means that production will cease in August.
In a press release Södra tells that they for more than half a year has been working to try to sell the mill in Tofte at commercial terms. During that time they have been in contact with a large number of stakeholders. Despite these efforts, they are forced to regret that it was not possible to achieve sales solution.
The decision means that production will end in August. In total, approximately 280 employees at the mill.
This decision is longstanding difficulties in creating profitability at the plant.
Södra Cell bought the plant in Tofte as late as in 2000. Production capacity amounts to 400 000 tonnes of chemical pulp.
