The explosion in the recovery boiler on 21 January 2014 has disrupted production at Stora Enso’s Swedish Skoghall mill. The reason for the explosion was that water from a scrubber, cleaning exhaust gases had leeked into the boiler. This is not supposed be possible Carl-Johan Albinsson, plant manager comments on Facebook. The production of cartoon board at the Skoghall mill has slowed down but not stopped. The company has used own produced CTMP pulp and sulphate pulp bought from other suppliers.
At the Skoghall mill, Stora Enso runs two board machines with a combined capacity of 800,000 t of board (liquid packaging board, containerboard) and white top kraftliner. The mill also produces 350,000 t of NBSK and 270,000 t of CTMP.
