The fast solar growth in China continue in Q1 2017
In the first quarter of 2017 China installed 7.21 GW of new solar capacity, This is that same level as in the first quarter the year before. If this 7.78 GW was utility side installations and 2.43 distributed solar reports Renewable energy world according to statistics from China’s national Energy Administration (NEA). In total China has 85 GW solar capacity and during Q1 2017 the country generated 2.1 billion kWh of electricity up 80 percent over the same period the year before.
The new capacity is now mostly installed in central and eastern regions of China, mainly the provinces of Zhejiang, Shandong, Anhui and Jiangsu.
The high speed of new installations is expected to continue drinking 2017 and is expected reach over 40 GW new capacity during 2017 according to China National Renewable Energy Centre. The problem China has to deal with is a huge overcapacity in the electricity production sector because of a general economic downturn and slashing of energy intensive industries.
