UK: October presented record high use of pellets for power generation
The countries three main pellet fired plants consumed 620 000 ton pellets during October, reports Argus Biomass market referring to figures from transmission operator National Grid. This is 19 percent higher than former record, set in August.
The main utility Drax has two units using pellets, unit 2 had a load factor of 92 percent and consumed 240 000 ton and unit 3 run close to maximum using 260 000 ton pellets, reports Argus Biomass Market. In total Drax generated 920 GWh electricity from pellets.
The other power company using pellets in UK is the E.on owned Ironbridge burned 120 000 ton in it´s sole 370 MW unit in the Ironbridge plant.
Argus Media market also notes that the power market in UK got increased competition from lower gas prices since the gas price fell after an agreement between Russia and Ukraina was reached.
